Originally the film Shamanism was made on behalf of Umea Municipality to the video installation Aurora Borealis I as part of the municipality's application for the Capital of Culture 2014. The film has since been included in several Aurora Borealis video installations and has been shown, among others, at the Swedish Institute in Paris. This is the first time in Europe the movie appears stand-alone, without being part of a video installation.
