| THE ANGELS PLAY - like islands in the dark
we are floating weightless between good and evil - was an installation in
Ystad City Hall Museum in 1998. The installation was based on the world
of symbols from the Middle Ages. It centred around a bathroom cabinet papered
on the inside with advertising pictures glorifying the violence in fashion
magazines. The cabinet itself was placed in the Museum of Art in Ystad to
correspond with the installation in the other museum. Photographs of the
cabinet in different surroundings were placed at the bottom of lamp pedestals.
The topic was the dualism between spiritual hope and the hidden violence
in society. The meeting in a thin membrane of two contradictions of today.
The pictures of violence as well as mirrors with written poetry were placed
on the floor to be viewed from above as if they were windows to an inverted
world beneath the floor. |
